The last few weeks haven been great for Chinese manufacturers of photovalic (PV) panels. Share prices for key solar panel producers like Trina Solar (TSL) and Yingli Green Energy (YGE) have basically imploded since reaching March highs. YGE alone is down about 40% since then.

But even as coal consumption continues to grow, renewables are hitting record highs. Worldwide wind power pushed up 19% in 2012, while solar PV capacity jumped 42%. Trina Solar (NYSE: TSL  ) is a Chinese solar giant and, although it's loaded up on debt, may emerge a leader due to its brand power and scale. Although China's increasing demand for energy is certain, where it will come from is still largely unclear.

But what does this resurrection mean for investors? With a couple of exceptions, solar stocks hit a peak in 2008. First Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: FSLR) topped $300 a share briefly, SunPower Corp. (NASDAQ: SPWR) topped $125 a share, JA Solar hit $120, Canadian Solar Inc. (NASDAQ: CSIQ) topped $40 and Trina Solar Ltd. (NYSE: TSL) reached its peak of more than $35 in mid-2007. At today’s prices one almost has to wonder if we are talking about the same companies. The only stock trading anywhere near its peak price of six years ago is Canadian Solar. JinkoSolar is near its all-time high again, but it was not publicly traded until mid-2010.

Advisors' Opinion:

Some don't blame technology vendors such asCGI Group (NYSE: GIB  ) a major contractor for the delayed federally operated system. Insurance companies suggest that the administration itself is partly at fault because details on the exchanges weren't provided until last month, according to The New York Times.

  • [By Chris Isidore]

The largest contractor is CGI Federal Inc., the U.S. unit of a Canadian firm CGI Group (GIB). It received $88 million through last March 31. Its original $93.7 million contract runs through December, with three one-year option periods still possible.

  • [By Jonas Elmerraji]

Things are a little simpler in shares of CGI Group (GIB), an $11 billion Canadian IT services firm. You don't have to be an expert technical analyst to figure out what's going on in this stock. In fact, a quick glance at the chart will do.

That's because GIB is currently forming an uptrending channel. The pattern is just about as basic as it gets: a pair of parallel trendlines have been reigning in GIB's price action for all of 2013, bouncing shares higher all the way up. Those two price levels give traders a high-probability price range for shares of GIB, and as you might imagine, it makes sense to jump in close to trendline support.

Since GIB is currently in the middle of the price channel, it's still got a little downside room to push into before it becomes buyable. But shares are on their way down now, so it makes sense to keep this name on your radar. When the time comes to buy, keep a protective stopjust below the most recent swing low at $33.

  • [By Keith Speights]

Look for politicians on both sides of the aisle to push for a better verification system for the Obamacare subsidies. One winner if they succeed could be CGI Group (NYSE: GIB  ) . The Canadian information technology firm is heavily involved with development of the federal exchanges as well as several state-run exchanges. More extensive verification means more work for some company. CGI's expertise with the exchange systems make it a good candidate to land the added business.

That trade will hit if HLIT manages to take out some near-term overhead resistance at $8 to its 52-week high at $8.04 with high volume.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in HLIT as long as it's trending above its 50-day at $7.51 or above more support at $7, and then once it sustains a move or close above those breakout levels with volume that hits near or above 777,544 shares.
