Getty Images/Orlando Sentinel/MCT/Joshua C. Cruey SeaWorld Entertainment (SEAS) may not have a lot of fans among the growing number of people who have watched the scathing documentary "Blackfish," but it's hard to say that protestors are leaving much of a dent. The marine life park operator posted another period of revenue growth during the holiday quarter, and it's targeting positive growth for 2014. It seems as if SeaWorld has survived the worst of the fallout behind last year's documentary, which took it to task for keeping killer whales in captivity. The Splash Zone Includes Losing Some Performers During last week's earning's announcement, SeaWorld reported that revenue climbed 3 percent during the fourth quarter as well as for all of 2013. Attendance fell 4.1 percent last year, but revenue is growing because those that are showing up are spending more to get in and spending more once they are inside. However, if one would think SeaWorld's attendance would deteriorate as more people were exposed to "Blackfish," reality has painted a different picture. Attendance across its empire of theme, amusement, and water parks dipped just 1.4 percent during the period -- and actually increased at its SeaWorld-branded parks. This is a welcome surprise. This is, after all, the first full quarter since "Blackfish" was broadcast on CNN and became a streaming entry on Netflix (NFLX). The furor against keeping orcas in captivity to entertain park guests should be growing, but the numbers don't bear that out. Successful grassroots campaigns forced many musical acts to bow out of an annual SeaWorld music festival, and a Califo! rnia lawm! aker is proposing a bill that would ban killer whales from being held in captivity. There are two sides to every story, and just because the "Blackfish" documentary filmmakers went first doesn't mean that they will have the final say on public perception. SeaWorld has refuted many of the claims made in the movie. Diving Into a New Year an

Texas Instruments' New Transceiver - Analyst Blog

Texas Instruments (TXN) or "TI" recently expanded its radio frequency (RF) product portfolio by launching the SimpleLink Sub-1 GHz CC1200 transceiver.

The new transceiver has data speeds of up to 1Mbps and offers 1 GHz wireless connectivity for Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) and Home Area Networks (HAN), which are found in smart grid, home and building automation and alarm and security system applications.

TI's CC1200 transceiver is highly effective for large sensor networks. It can also handle long range communication and offers superior co-existence in noisy RF environments. TI's new transceiver also reduces system power consumption.

The transceiver is also compatible with other TI products such as CC1190 power amplifier, MSP430F5438A microcontrollers (MCU) and other LoWPAN solutions.

TI's increasing focus on new products should generate good returns. The company's diverse portfolio targeting different emerging market segments such as smart grid, factory automation, high-voltage power, LED lighting and control are also positives for its future revenue growth.

In the first quarter of fiscal 2013, TI generated total revenue of $2.89 billion, which was down 3.2% sequentially and 7.6% year over year (toward the higher end of the narrowed guidance range of $2.80 billion to $2.91 billion). The Analog business fell 1.3% sequentially and 2.3% year over year. TI attributed the year-over-year decline primarily to SVA, which continues to shift to a consignment model. HVAL and HPA also declined but were offset by an increase in the power management product line.

Texas Instruments has a Zacks Rank #3 (Hold). Other semiconductor stocks that are worth considering include Linear Technology Corp. (LLTC), ON Semiconductor Corp. (ONNN) and Intersil Corp. (ISIL), all carrying a Zacks Rank #2 (Buy).

Top 10 Defense Companies To Buy For 2014

China is fast becoming a major exporter of capital.

Everyone has heard about the Chinese buying up land in Africa to tap the country cheap natural resources.  But what about China firms buying AMC Cinema for $2.6 billion in 2012? Or Smithfield Farms for $4.7 billion last year? China wants American technological know-how, it wants American consumers, and it wants natural resources.

On July 9 and 10, Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and Secretary of State John Kerry will be in Beijing to discuss opening up both markets to even more investment. Washington is hot for Chinese capital.  The Obama Administration has made foreign direct investment, an a so-called sian tilt part of the country economic foreign policy.  To achieve that, Lew and Kerry are off to Beijing for the sixth annual Strategic and Economic Dialogue to discuss a bilateral investment treaty.

Road blocks remain, though.

The U.S. has an uneven playing field, going up against large state owned enterprises (SEO) that have subsidies U.S. competitors don have.  China continues to play offense, while the U.S. is mostly on defense pushing China to reform its foreign exchange rate policies, get tougher on cyber crime and protection of intellectual property, and open its markets to favored sectors of the U.S. economy, like financial services.

If you take a look at the chart for Catalyst Pharmaceutical Partners, you'll notice that this stock has been uptrending strong for the last month, with shares soaring higher from its low of $1.29 to its intraday high of $2.09 a share. During that uptrend, shares of CPRX have been consistently making higher lows and higher highs, which is bullish technical price action. That move has now pushed share of CPRX within range of triggering a big breakout trade.

Traders should now look for long-biased trades in CPRX if it manages to break out above its 50-day moving average of $2.11 a share with high volume. Look for a sustained move or close above that level with volume that hits near or above its three-month average volume of 2.21 million shares. If that breakout triggers soon, then CPRX will set up to re-test or possibly take out its next major overhead resistance levels at $2.87 to $3 a share. Any high-volume move above those levels will then give CPRX a chance to re-test its 52-week high at $3.65 a share.

Traders can look to buy CPRX off any weakness to anticipate that breakout and simply use a stop that sits right below some key near-term support levels at $1.65 to $1.63 a share. One can also buy CPRX off strength once it starts to take out those breakout levels with volume and then simply use a stop that sits a comfortable percentage from your entry point.

While the Twitter IPO has been grabing everyone's attention, biotech IPOs continue to dominate both biotech and IPO news with Karyopharm Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: KPTI) going public yesterday and Relypsa (NASDAQ: RLYP), TetraLogic Pharmaceuticals (NASDAQ: TLOG), Vital Therapies (NASDAQ: VTL) and Xencor (NASDAQ: XNCR) filing to go public in the near future (despite the sector producing some ugly charts for the month of October) plus another small cap called TNI BioTech (OTCMKTS: TNIB) has also been producing a steady flow of news:

We expect Caledonia to generate close to $600M in EBITDA. While RIGs mid-water OPEX has averaged about $125k/d we expect it to be lower at Caledonia. 2015 Consensus EBITDA for RIG is ~$3B which means 20% of RIGs 2015 EBITDA comes from the rigs that will become Caledonia. The problem (in a bear market) is that companies with lower end rigs trade at a discount just ask Awilco (AWLCF), Fred Olsen Energy, and Paragon Offshore (PGN) which trade at an average multiple of 3.3x on 2015 EBITDA versus RIG which trades at 6.3x.

Best Medical Companies To Buy For 2014

Normally when we think of investing in health care, medical device makers, pharmaceutical companies, and health insurers come to mind. However, buying Qualcomm (NASDAQ: QCOM  ) stock could actually be a smart health care play as well. Here's why.

Mobile medical
What does a mobile communications giant have in common with health care? More than you might think -- especially in the growing area of telemedicine.

Telemedicine basically involves using medical information gathered at one location and sending this information electronically to another location to improve a patient's health. The opportunity for this technology to make a difference in improving health care is tremendous. Deloitte projects that $400 billion each year could be saved by using technology to address medical needs at home.

It's in the area of telemedicine that Qualcomm's technology shines. The company formed a business unit called Qualcomm Life in late 2011. Qualcomm Life focuses on remote health management using its 2net cloud platform. 2net enables integration of medical devices at a patient's home with a database hosted in the cloud. Other applications can access this data to provide a wide range of services to improve health care.

Products under this consist of: X-Ray Detectors, which converts the x-ray energy in a CT machine to useful analog signals for processing in the DAS.

DAS, which are used to process the signals created by the detectors and feed them as a digital stream to a reconstruction computer to create high resolution images. The DAS is designed with many multi-channel circuit boards that process the analog signals from the detectors and convert them into digital signals through an array of analog to digital.

converters. DMS, which the brains of the CT sys! tem and consists of both the detector array and the DAS in one package. This system provides its OEM customers a level of integration that allows for lower cost and faster time to market. Integrated Gantries, which is a component of the CT system (detectors, DAS, x-ray tube and power supplies), are mounted on a rotating ring assembly called a gantry. The Q3 2014 earnings report for molecular diagnostic company Myriad Genetics, Inc (NASDAQ: MYGN) is due out after the market closes on Tuesday and things could get ugly since unlike potential diagnostic stock peers such as Rosetta Genomics Ltd (NASDAQ: ROSG) and mid cap diagnostic stock Quest Diagnostics Inc (NYSE: DGX), it the most shorted stock on the Nasdaq with short interest of 52.07%. Aside from the Myriad Genetics earnings report, it should be said that Rosetta Genomics Ltd last reported earnings on March 31st and thoseearnings were for the full year 2013 whileQuest Diagnostics reported Q1 2014 earnings on April 24th that were a disappointment due to restructuring costs and harsh winter weather. However, Myriad Genetics has been the more interesting stock as Medicare reimbursement rate increases and the lost of a court bid to block competition while a patent-infringement case is pending have sent its shares all over the place.
